A Korean Decameron by Ty Pak was originally published in a small, limited edition in 1961 in Seoul. At the time it sold mostly to American GIs in tourist shops and PXs. Most copies of this rare book disappeared, but a few survived, including the copy used as the basis for the Bo-Leaf reprint. A Korean Decameron is a fascinating and important text both for the story of its original production and for the Yi Dynasty tales it includes. It will be a valuable addition to the study of Korean narrative folklore, providing tales generally unavailable outside special library collections. These folktales have been adapted by Ty Pak into a form easily readable by both academics and general readers. Includes illustrations, historical and contextual comments by Heinz Insu Fenkl, and an introduction that explains the unexpected resonances between these Yi Dynasty tales and the Decameron of Boccacio.
